For a one-person US office or spare-room shop

Furnish the desk you will actually sit at.

Default: a Branch chair and a Branch desk. That is a recommendation with tradeoffs, not a storefront. We are not Branch Furniture, we do not score chairs out of ten, and we will tell you when a big-box floor model or a used Steelcase is the saner buy.

The sequence: chair first, then desk height, then monitor, then the rest.

Honest tradeoffs. Sometimes the warehouse chair is the right chair.

The default, if you want one

If you sit most of the day, buy an adjustable chair from a company that publishes dimensions, a weight rating, and a real warranty — then a desk that fits the room you have. For this audience we start at Branch: direct-to-consumer office furniture aimed at home and small offices, not a dealership quote. If you need to sit in a chair this afternoon, skip the wait and go to a store. If you already have a decent chair, do not replace it because a landing page told you to.

  • Chair before desk

A cheap desk with a chair that fits you beats a standing desk on a dining chair. Most back complaints in a spare-room office are seat and height, not “ergonomic accessories.”

  • Try-before is a feature

Branch ships to you. A Staples or Office Depot floor can be sat in today. Those are different products, not the same chair with a different logo.

  • Sister sites

How to furnish a spare bedroom or one-person shop: chair first, then desk, then monitor height — with Branch as the default D2C option and the cases where a store chair wins.

The sit

Seat depth, lumbar you can move, armrests, cylinder range, and warranty — without star scores. When a Branch chair is a reasonable default, and when used contract furniture wins.

The surface

When a sit-stand desk is worth the frame, how to set monitor height, and why Branch is a default D2C desk — not a requirement. Cables, casters, and the cases for a sitting-only desk.
